Assemble-to-Order (ATO)

The problem. You sell a "server" made of a monitor, a cpu and a switch — but which monitor exactly depends on what is in stock and what the customer wants. Dolibarr's virtual products need a fixed component list, so they do not fit. You end up either creating a product variant for every combination, or typing the components by hand on every order.

What this module does. On the composed product you define composition rules per product category: one from Monitors, one from Keyboards, two from Memory. The concrete articles are chosen in the draft order, from a list showing free stock per candidate. They are added as real order lines below the composed product: the price stays on the parent, the stock runs through the components.

Why that matters. From order validation onwards, nothing is customised. Shipment, stock movements, batch and serial numbers, the delivery note, invoicing and returns are all untouched Dolibarr behaviour. Barcode picking on a handheld simply sees ordinary product lines, so no connector changes are needed. The module never writes a stock movement of its own — which is exactly why it stays out of trouble on upgrades.

Included

• Composition rules per product category, with quantity per unit and optional/mandatory.
• Selection screen on the draft order, showing free stock for every candidate article.
• Components may be chosen a few at a time; completeness is enforced at order validation, which is refused while a mandatory rule is unfulfilled — before any stock has moved.
• One setting governs component-line visibility on the order card, the order PDF, the invoice card and the invoice PDF at once, so the customer never sees something different from your staff.
• Optional surcharge per chosen component, for upgrades against extra cost.
• A product that gains composition rules is switched to type service automatically, with a notice explaining why.
• English, French and Dutch translations.

Requirements. STOCK_SUPPORTS_SERVICES and SHIPMENT_SUPPORTS_SERVICES must both be disabled; the module's setup page checks them and reports their state.

Known limits. The choice is made at order entry, not by the picker on the floor. One composition per order line — split the line to vary components per unit. Sub-categories do not count, only the category a rule points at.
