Address Assistant DE/AT/CH/LI

Correct addresses for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein - when entered and in your existing data

Type the postal code, pick the entry - town, country and federal state or canton are filled in. The Address Assistant brings the complete directory of postal codes and towns of the four countries (about 20,400 entries) and uses it wherever addresses are entered in Dolibarr - on request also on the public forms. The address check finds missing federal states, typing errors and wrong postal codes in the addresses already stored and corrects them after a confirmation.

Why this module?

• Suggestions in every address form: third parties, contacts, members, users and all other forms with postal code and town. After the postal code Dolibarr suggests the towns, after the town the postal codes; the choice also fills in the federal state or canton.
• On public forms too: membership request, partnership, lead, event registration, booth and conference suggestion, the donation form from Dolibarr 22 and the public invoice form from Dolibarr 23. The suggestions come only from the postal code directory - visitors never see your customer data. Off by default, one switch turns it on.
• Address check for your existing data: an analysis on request counts six findings per object type - state missing, state differs, postal code and town do not match, postal code unknown, country missing, postal code format. Checked are third parties, contacts, members, users, resources, warehouses, establishments, bank account owners and donations.
• Missing states at once: where postal code and town lead to exactly one federal state, add it for a selection or for all addresses with one click. Only empty fields are filled.
• Corrections with a proposal: for typing errors the check proposes the most similar towns or postal codes, for a missing country the matching country. Each correction changes exactly one field, only after a confirmation, and appears in the agenda with the note "address check" where Dolibarr records changes.
• Intended deviations stay: "leave as is" hides a finding until the address changes - with date and user, and can be shown again at any time.
• Extend the directory yourself: if a new postal code is missing, add it with its state straight from the check; from then on it is suggested everywhere. A tab of its own shows entries, data date and your own additions per country.
• Permissions and visibility as in Dolibarr: three permissions of its own (view findings, apply corrections, extend the directory); changing an address also needs the right to modify that object type. The check shows only addresses the user may see anyway.

How it works

1. Enable: enabling the module loads the postal code directory and switches on Dolibarr's setting for postal code and town suggestions - effective at once in all forms.
2. Public forms (optional): turn on the switch for the public forms in the module setup.
3. Check: start the analysis under Tools › Address check; the figures lead to the lists of the addresses concerned.
4. Correct: apply missing states in one go, apply proposals one by one, "leave as is" for exceptions.

Open data and data protection

Open data with attribution: the postal code and town data come from open sources - Germany: © OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database License), Austria: RTR-GmbH, Switzerland and Liechtenstein: Swiss Post (CC BY 4.0). Data as of: Germany 14.02.2022, Austria 13.02.2023, Switzerland and Liechtenstein 15.02.2023. On public forms the list of suggestions names the sources itself, as the licences require.

Everything local: the directory and the check run on your Dolibarr server; no addresses are sent to external services (GDPR, the EU data protection regulation).

What the module does not do: it checks postal code, town, country and federal state or canton - not streets or house numbers. It changes nothing without a confirmation; donations are only checked, never changed - their address is on a donation receipt already issued. In the internal forms Dolibarr fills in the state only when the country is chosen.

Languages of the user interface: German, English. The handbook is in German.

Requirements

• Dolibarr 20 or newer - tested with Dolibarr 20, 22, 23, 24 and the development version
• PHP 7.4 or newer - tested up to PHP 8.5
• MySQL or MariaDB

Updating from version 1.7: install the new version, then disable and re-enable the module once under Setup › Modules. The postal code data is kept; missing federal states in Thuringia are filled in on the way.
