Learn German, English and Spanish inside Dolibarr, with UltimateLingua

The UltimateLingua module adds a language learning path to Dolibarr, in the style of the popular language apps: lessons of a few minutes, varied exercises, points, a streak of days, medals and a weekly ranking.

It comes with 18 ready-to-use courses for French speakers: German, English and Spanish, from level A1 to level C2 of the European framework. Each course has 20 units, 40 lessons and 320 exercises, that is 720 lessons and 5,760 exercises in all. Every employee learns at their own pace, in the tool they open every day.

Important: the questions, instructions and translations of the supplied courses are in French. The courses are meant for learners whose language is French; the interface of the module is available in French and English.

🧩 How a lesson works

1. The Learn menu shows the path of the chosen course, unit by unit, with the next lesson highlighted.

2. A lesson is a short series of exercises: choose the right answer, translate a sentence, put words in order or match pairs.

3. Each answer is checked at once, with the right answer after a mistake. An answer accepted without its accents gets a "Mind the accents" note.

4. A wrong answer is asked again at the end of the lesson, but only the first answer counts for the score.

5. At the end, the score, the points earned, the streak and the daily goal are shown. With 80% of right answers (configurable), the lesson is passed and the next one is unlocked.

⚙️ Installation

Method 1: install from the Dolibarr interface

1. Home → Setup → Modules/Applications, tab Deploy/install external app/module.

2. Choose the .zip file of the module, then click Send file.

Method 2: manual install on the server (SSH)

1. Copy the zip to the server and unzip it: unzip module_ultimatelingua-24.0.0.zip -d /tmp/ultimatelingua_zip

2. Copy the module folder: cp -r /tmp/ultimatelingua_zip/htdocs/ultimatelingua /path/to/dolibarr/htdocs/custom/

3. Give the files to the web server if needed: chown -R www-data:www-data /path/to/dolibarr/htdocs/custom/ultimatelingua

4. Check that the module is in htdocs/custom/ultimatelingua (and not htdocs/custom/htdocs/ultimatelingua).

Method 3: upload by FTP / SFTP

1. Unzip the file on your computer: it contains an htdocs folder, which itself contains the ultimatelingua folder.

2. With an FTP/SFTP client (FileZilla for instance), upload the ultimatelingua folder (neither the zip nor the htdocs folder around it) into the custom directory of Dolibarr (the one next to admin, core, conf…; depending on the host, in htdocs, httpdocs, www or public_html).

3. Check that the path …/custom/ultimatelingua/core/modules/modUltimateLingua.class.php exists.

Then

1. Enable the module from Home → Setup → Modules, family Human Resource Management (HR).

2. In the Settings tab of its setup, Course packs block, click Import next to each course to offer.

3. Give the learners the permission Follow the courses and practice the lessons.

❓ FAQ

• Does the module change the Dolibarr core?
  No. UltimateLingua is a standalone module that does not touch any Dolibarr file.

• Are the courses suited to learners who do not speak French?
  No: the 18 supplied courses are for French speakers (instructions, questions and translations in French). You can however create your own courses for other learners.

• The Learn menu does not show?
  The user does not have the permission "Follow the courses and practice the lessons".

• The path is empty?
  No course has been imported yet: Course packs block of the Settings tab.

• No sound?
  The browser has no voice in the learned language, the learner turned the sound off, or pronunciation is disabled in the setup.

• Does an update of the module erase the results?
  No. Updating a course only adds the missing exercises: it changes neither the existing exercises nor the results of the learners.
