PDF Protect

PDF Protect adds AES-256 permission settings to the quote and invoice PDFs that Dolibarr generates. Out of the box, your documents still open with a single click, no password needed, but text copying and editing are turned off. Readers like Adobe Acrobat and Foxit respect these settings, so the documents are easy to share while everyday users are kept from copying text or reworking them.

When a document genuinely needs to stay confidential, you can set a user password in the admin screen. The PDF is then encrypted and cannot be opened at all without it.

One thing worth being clear about: in the default setup, with no user password, the copy and edit restrictions are a deterrent that compliant readers honor rather than a hard cryptographic lock. Someone with the right PDF tools could strip them out. If you need protection that truly holds, set a user password.

The module applies protection automatically as soon as a PDF is generated, lets you choose which documents to cover and which permissions to allow, and keeps an audit log of what was protected. It works through several engines depending on what your server has available (qpdf, GhostScript, pikepdf, pypdf, or the built-in TCPDF, which needs nothing extra installed), and it stays compatible with electronic signature workflows further down the line. Everything is managed from an admin page inside Dolibarr.
